Steve Douglas

the skinny - a little background (or, my life in 76 keywords)

born in northern ireland, more specifically belfast and even more specifically an area called bloomfield. I attended a nice little school called elmgrove (though I was always in trouble for walking on the grass). I passed the 11+ with flying colors and as such was accepted into inst (a fairly snobby semi-private school) but didn't go because I

moved to canada when I was but a wee lad. Went first to balmoral public school, was 'accelerated' to earnscliffe before I was moved again and

attended chinguacousy high school where I met my first true love, debbie smith, my second true love lisa bove and a whole bunch of crushes, infatuations and broken hearts before I

attended sheridan school of visual arts in the illustration program. guess that makes me an illustrator. I like to think I've become an okay graphic artist. One of the most influential classes there was a program called structural drawing, taught by a very intense dude by the name of john woods. the stuff I learned there will stay with me for the rest of my life and came in handy when I

worked for a musclemag international magazine as an art director, writer and photographer. saw the world on their dime while learing and honing my craft which came in real handy when I

published max bodysport magazine (for a very short spell - 3 issues to be exact) and

ran a photography studio, and

worked as the design department (just me) at angelfish marketing all the while I

lived in brampton (which some people still refer to as bramalea) while I

shopped in mississauga.

hung out in the 80s at a dance club known then as nuts and bolts where I met other crushes and infatuations - karen and 'ballet' sue and another of my true loves - sue collins who changed my life at a time when I needed it. when I got tired of nuts and bolts I could always

hang out at dominoes. the whole music scene inspired me to

become fan of, and tinkerer in, alternative music (known then as new wave) which led me to

working on freelance design projects for the hippest (then) brampton/toronto/gta radio station - cfny (now known as the edge - not so cool) while I

also hung out at trendy spots like the record peddler and stars - one of the few cool (ever) nightclubs in brampton. Some time during those years, I

took up scuba diving. earned my wings (guess that should be gills) at lett's dive in georgetown while I

had a hand at windsurfing (or do they now call it board sailing?). while it's been years since I wind-surfed, I

still dive at tobermory.

around 1996 I found out about this thing known as the internet, and began a company that led to me

currently (and hopefully, for the foreseeable future) owning/operating a graphic design studio specializing in logo design called (ironically enough) the logo factory. You can see that gig here. My work in the graphic arts field as a designer has made me a

complete macintosh zealot. at some point on my journey I got married and had two kids - amy and matthew, got unmarried and then married again to a truly righteous woman - sue mcguire, who despite a wildly dysfunctional family (affectionate wave at beth and bryan), is the most grounded, kindest and gentlest person I've ever met, and with whom I plan to spend the rest of whatever time I have left. Along with the puppies

all in all, not too much is it?
